Colt Auto Pistols have really come into their own – especially the ultra-rare “Hammer” Models that lead up to the M1911. Yes, the Model 1900 through the Model 1907 “Hammer” Pistols are becoming the gilt-edged investments in the field of Colt Firearms collecting. They’ve gone up in value tremendously, but they’re still largely “undiscovered.” Gun List (19 Nov 04) says of early Colt Autos, “Values have soared considerably for many pre-World War II, and many wartime and limited-edition postwar versions.” Now, The American Historical Foundation brings you a hand engraved Limited Edition of the Colt 1903 “Hammer” Model – a direct ancestor of the famous Colt M1911. In fact, it is the last antecedent before Colt switched to the then-new .45 ACP caliber. The Colt Model 1903 .38 Rimless “Hammer” Model is very rare; this is not the more-common Colt .380 Hammerless. This features:
Not only are these rare, but in engraved form, they are incredibly rare. In our research, we couldn’t find any engraved Model 1903 Hammer Models! We did find that 21 of the Model 1902 were engraved (the same pistol, but 1-1/2” longer barrel). We came across a hand engraved Model 1902, which sold at auction for $101,250! (Greg Martin Auctions – 26 April 05). It features hand engraving and Mother of Pearl grips, but no precious metal plating or inlays.
This is a Limited Edition of only 38! – as a tie-in to the significance of its caliber. Special, custom-gunsmithed features include:
Each fires Colt ".38 Rimless Smokeless" ammunition (larger and more powerful than .380 ACP). This ammunition is still available today on the collector’s market.
Also available is a custom made, luxuriously lined Display Case with locking glass lid and engraved identification plaque to display and protect your Tribute from dust and unauthorized handling.
