Ask anyone who’s done it. Jungle fighting is the toughest there is. The rugged terrain, combined with the tropical heat and humidity, tests a combatant and his equipment to the limit. To win in the jungle means to adapt and overcome your environment as well as your enemy. And in the hands of American forces in Vietnam, the M1 Carbine was a winner.
It was the first weapon to go in-country with U.S. Advisors and indigenous forces in the late 1950’s — while the M16 was still on the drawing board. It is in tribute to this fine firearm and our Veterans who used it that The American Historical Foundation proudly announces the Vietnam War Commemorative M1 Carbine, the first M1 Carbine ever to honor America’s Vietnam Veterans.
The M1 Carbine was forged during World War II out of the need for a firearm to bridge the gap between the M1911A1 .45 pistol and the M1 Garand rifle. The result was the M1 Carbine, the ingenious invention of David “Carbine” Williams. After giving yeoman service in World War II and Korea, the M1 Carbine was again called into action during the Vietnam War. It was a favorite of the Green Berets, chopper pilots, and anyone else who valued its light weight and handy size.
Each Vietnam War Commemorative M1 Carbine is built in the U.S. to full military specs and features:
