It’s hard to believe, but in 2005 we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the .44 Magnum – and we do so now with a Limited Edition of only 50! It began with a Smith & Wesson, and, now, for the 50th Anniversary, we bring you the standard of excellence of today’s Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum. On future major anniversaries, such as the 75th and the 100th, our descendants can see what great gunsmithing was like in 2005 (and with the growing shortage of skilled hand engravers and gunsmiths, work of this quality might not be available in the future). Numerous internal improvements were made to the S&W .44 Magnum over the years. And this .44 Magnum features every update – considerably improved over its ancestors.

Take to the Range or Field

A special aspect is this model is Stainless Steel. It is designed to be taken to the range or field for shooting. And with the long, 6-1/2” barrel with the full-length underlug, it would be great for your next big-game hunting trip. While it is fitted with beautiful custom polished-and-waxed Rosewood grips, it also comes with a set of form-fitted, all-rubber Hogue grips to which you can also easily switch. Much of the weight is towards the muzzle which helps tame recoil and aids that second tap (always handy when hunting). At nearly three-and-a-half pounds, it’s a hefty piece.

The trigger is 24-Karat Gold plated because:

It feels good.
It allows the trigger action to bed in better and to operate smoother (due to the natural lubricity of the plating).

The third reason we did this was because this celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the .44 Magnum, and the 50th is the Golden Anniversary. And, while our gunsmiths are at it, they are 24-Karat Gold plating the screwheads (on the right side) on the sideplate and on the cylinder release (on the left side) and on the grip screw. And for best shooting results, this is fitted with the .400” smooth combat trigger, the .500” target hammer, the click-adjustable rear sight, and the quick-replacement front sight.

Museum Edition “One of 10”

For those of you who want a 50th Anniversary Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum that is really over the top, we also have the “One of 10” Museum Edition. This starts with the “One of 50” and builds on that. This features:
