Patton® “Victory” Walther, “One of 250”

In an age full of heroes—World War II—General Patton captured the imagination of the world, whose freedom he helped preserve and restore. And the thought of “Victory!” was always uppermost in General Patton’s mind. So he fought for it from the point position, his credo being: “Get up front! You will never know what is going on unless you can hear the bullets.” And, from the front, he lead his forces through North Africa, Sicily and into Italy and, then, across France, leading the Allies into the heart of Germany—and Victory!

His Symbol of Victory

So he must have placed great importance on his “Victory” pistol—the Walther PP custom-gunsmithed for him and presented to him by his troops, in honor of the successful push into Germany, overrunning the Walther factory there in April, 1945. And because it was German “booty”, captured just a month before V-E Day, it was even more endearing to him. It was his symbol of victory. But, as it turned out, this was also the last of his great, custom-presentation pieces; he died just seven months after V-E Day and was buried, at his request, beside his men in the military cemetery in Luxembourg. But fortunately his “Victory” Walther PP was returned to the United States, as a touchstone to this man of great self-determination, displayed in its permanent home at the Virginia Military Institute, where General Patton began his higher education, in his “Rat” year, there. With the cooperation of the VMI Museum, the Foundation presents the opportunity to only 250 veterans, collectors, patriotic Americans and museums in the world to own a faithful, firing, custom-gunsmithed Limited Edition of this important firearm.

A German-Made Walther

And, like the original, each is a genuine German-made Walther PP, hand engraved by hammer and chisel. And, as did General Patton’s (and as he would expect), each fires 7.65mm (.32 Auto—readily available). The engraving scheme is classic German acorn-and-oakleaf, with full coverage, including the grip back straps.

The focal point of the piece is his boldly-engraved name, flanked by the patch of the 90th Infantry Division of Patton’s Third Army, which overran the Walther factory and which unit presented the pistol to him (their “TO” symbol stands for “Tough ’Ombres”). And, as your assurance of quality, all of the engraving is completely by hand. But, turning back the clock to April, 1945, thanks to the might of American combined arms, most of Germany’s war production had been destroyed. So, there were no facilities to plate General Patton’s original—and it was left “in the white”. And probably due to oversight or lack of time, the General’s “trademark” initials, the inter-twined “GSP”, had not been engraved in the grip.

Sterling Silver Plated

So to “complete” the piece for this museum-quality limited edition, each pistol is mirror polished by skilled gun polishers and beautifully plated with genuine Sterling Silver, to Jewelers Grade–Heavy thickness. And, true to the General’s preference, the grip is engraved with his initials in his characteristic fashion. Everyone who sees the grip will swear it is Ivory. For the first time ever on a limited edition firearm a new material has been developed by our custom gripmaker that looks like genuine Ivory, complete with grain formation. But the main attraction is it won’t split like Ivory, important on grips this thin (not inexpensive, these grips cost more than three times the price of walnut grips!)

Few military firearms in American history were as impressive as General Patton’s. But, then again, few men in world history could compare to him—so the distinction was appropriate.

Exhibition-Grade “One of 25”

For advanced collectors who want something special we are also issuing a Exhibition-Grade “One of 25” edition. Each of these is completely plated with 24-Karat Gold, and the General’s initials, rather than being engraved in the grips, are inlaid in raised, solid 24-Karat Gold! Truly spectacular!
