Rare indeed are Exhibition-Grade firearms. Now, we bring you a piece that
immediately makes firearms history—for it is the world’s first Luger of any type
inlaid with Rubies. This dazzling, bejeweled classic originated almost 100 years
ago, but it now belongs to the ages, for its greatness, importance, and
beauty are timeless. Hand engraved ‘standard’ Lugers are among the elite of the
elite. The Artillery Luger was made only in the World War I years, between 1914
and 1918. With its distinctive, long barrel, it was issued for defense to, among
others, German artillery crews.
Ten Genuine, Sparkling, Red Rubies
This Exhibition-Grade firearm is worthy of honoring Germany's most-famous
pilot, Baron Manfred von Richtofen, “the Red Baron.” And, true to his moniker,
it is lavishly inlaid with 10 genuine brilliant-cut red Rubies. It is called
“The Red Baron Artillery Luger—One of 25.”
Genuine Original — Made in Germany During 1914-1918
Each rare, genuine, original German Artillery Luger was made during 1914-1918. Following disassembly and close scrutiny, each hand-picked
original Artillery Luger is custom mirror polished.
Gemstones, Solid 24-Karat Gold Inlays and Hand Engraving
Each Red Baron Artillery Luger “One of 25” is intricately hand engraved and
painstakingly crafted with the following numerous hallmarks of the custom
gunsmithing art:
- Ten red Rubies, symbolizing the formidable red Fokker triplane favored by
this knight of the air, are set in Gold and inlaid across this
Exhibition-Grade piece.
- The sideplate is highlighted by four brilliant-cut Rubies, hand inlaid into
four Gold bezels which are, in turn, inlaid into the sideplate.
- The classic, German oak leaf pattern, is hand engraved across the left side
of the frame. This, in turn, is surrounded by 24-Karat Gold inlays and four more
Rubies, precisely inlaid in Gold, as corner devices.
- As a further touch, each side of the front sight base is inlaid with a
gleaming Ruby, inlaid in Gold.
- The distinctive signature of Baron von Richtofen is hand-engraved across the
center of the barrel.
- The Richtofen signature “R” is inlaid in solid 24-Karat Gold on the
sideplate. This panoply is encased by a wreath of laurel leaves and oak leaves,
taken from the Baron’s WWI Pilot’s Badge.
- The German Imperial Crown, symbol of the German Empire at the time of World
War I, and a prominent feature on the Imperial German Aviator’s Badge, is hand
engraved into the left side of the reinforced breech.
- The combination of hand engraved oak and laurel leaf patterns are carried
through around the muzzle, and along accents on the both sides of the frame.
- Additional solid 24-Karat Gold inlays decorate the barrel at the muzzle and
the breech, as well as on both sides of the upper and lower frame and accenting
varied facets of the steel.
- Hand engraving, en suite, covers the trigger, safety, frame latch and grip
screws.
- All of the engraving is by hand, using the traditional hammer-and-chisel
technique.
- All of the foliate engraving is accentuated by gold-gilt infill.
- Genuine 24-Karat Gold plating covers the trigger, safety, frame latch, grip
screws, front sight screw, rear-sight pin, rear-sight screw and magazine
release; all to Jewelers Grade-Heavy thickness, for lasting beauty and value.
