The Pour le Mérite (Blue Max) Luger

It is the signature weapon of Germany. It is the legendary Luger. Its design is sophisticated, and complex; over 1,100 operations were required to make one Luger. The functioning of the knee-action toggle recoil/cocking/re-chambering system intrigues anyone who loves to operate, or watch in action, unusual mechanisms.

The “Blue Max”

In a history-making “world’s first,” this most-valued battlefield weapon is being paired with Germany’s highest and most-prestigious battlefield award. The Pour le Mérite (the “PLM”) was better known by its nickname, the “Blue Max” (“Blauer Max,” in German). Prussian King Friedrich the Great instituted it in 1740—the reason for the “F” and crown device on the medal. French was the official royal court language throughout Europe; hence the French name, “For Merit.” The color of the enamel work explained the “Blue” of its nickname, and the “Max” referred to Max Immelmann, the first fighter “Ace” to win the medal in WWI. It was last awarded in 1918, just prior to the dissolution of Imperial Germany. The best known of the Blue Max winners was Baron Manfred von Richthofen, the “Red Baron,” the most legendary pilot in military history, with eighty air-combat victories.

It would be presumptuous for a Limited Edition Luger to bear the name Pour le Mérite, unless it were magnificent. Collectors may select from two editions of this superb, Museum-Quality collectible firearm; each is an authentic, original, pre-war/wartime German-made Luger. Both editions feature the finest custom gunsmithing, including:

All the engraving is by hand, solely in the time-honored hammer-and-chisel method, in German scrolls.
All the inlays are solid 24-Karat Gold, hand engraved and hand inlaid in the traditional hammer-and-chisel technique.
Each is carefully polished to a high-gloss mirror finish by our trained gun polishers, and custom, high-temperature, immersion blued.
Six components are plated with 24-Karat Gold to Jewelers Grade–Heavy thickness: the trigger, safety lever, both grip screws, takedown lever and magazine release.
Deluxe hand-fitted grips are the finest hand-finished Walnut, polished to a mirror finish to match the glistening steel and 24-Karat Gold.

The Pour le Mérite Luger—“One of 500” reflects the high tribute due to this medal with fabulous embellishments few individuals have been fortunate enough to view, let alone own, in a genuine Luger.
Hand engraving, using the time-honored hammer-and-chisel technique, encircles the muzzle and both sides of the frame, in traditional German scroll.
The Pour le Mérite cross is beautifully hand cut and hand inlaid with solid 24-Karat Gold into the sideplate.
This 24-Karat Gold cross device is, in turn, inlaid with Jewelers lustrous, blue, fired enamel.
A solid 24-Karat Gold band is also hand engraved and hand inlaid around the muzzle.

The Pour le Mérite Luger is strictly limited to only 500 firing examples, worldwide.
