The M1911A1 .45 Pistol was carried in combat over the flak-filled skies by Air Corps crews. It was dear to them because it was their only weapon of personal defense if shot down over enemy-held territory. The .45 was also issued to ground crews for close-in defense in the event of a ground attack against air fields or Air Corps installations. Thus, it forms a familiar link to all Air Corps personnel.
Custom designed for the American Historical Foundation by the craftsmen of Auto Ordnance Corporation, makers of the world famous Thompson Submachine Gun, each pistol is precision finished to our demanding museum-quality specifications.
The presentation side of the slide is deeply etched and gold-gilt infilled with the title “U.S. Army Air Corps,” the motto “Nothing Can Stop the Army Air Corps!,” four stars at the muzzle and the U.S. collar insignia.
